The Open Open, your annual program outline, and upcoming events

The Open Open: Fun! And for everyone.

Thank you to our incredible Feast community and coaches for your continued support and participation in this year’s Open Open. The showdown of “The Andrews” was everything we’d hoped for…a full, energetic gym cheering, “Let’s go, Andrew!” 😂  And while we think every Feast member named Andrew is a winner, we’d like to officially congratulate ANDREW GLATT on his Friday Night Showdown win!

But he’s not the only winner…

So far, we’ve raised over $2,000 for GLSEN, a national organization dedicated to providing K-12 students with safe and inclusive physical education, sport, and play environments. We’re accepting donations through the end of our in-house competition and welcome contributions through Zelle (greg@feast-fitness.com).

Your Annual Programming Outline is Here!

The future of Feast, fitness for friends, and a week of sauna

the future of feast is strong

the future of feast is strong 〰️

From Coach Greg…

“I define culture as ‘the observed behavior of senior leadership,’ and I therefore believe that a strong, healthy gym culture requires a leader who is physically present, living our values.

Along with our other coaches, I’ve been honored to serve in that leadership role. But looking to the future, I realize I might not be as physically present. Our kids now live in NYC, and we want to travel to see them regularly. Plus, with the kids out of the house, Maura and I want to travel more frequently, and for longer stretches.

At the same time, Anna has continued to grow as a coach, a manager, a businessperson, and a leader. Last year, Anna and I began discussing ways to recognize that growth, while also cementing her long-term commitment to take on an even larger leadership role for our community. We’ve agreed on a plan that will allow Anna to build into this transition over the next several years. As of January 1, she is a partner in the business, and her ownership will only grow from here.

This will be a lengthy transition, and I’m not planning on going anywhere anytime soon. But I’m so grateful to Anna for agreeing to take on this role for Feast and our community, and I’m excited to see how she takes Feast forward from here.”

Since I was 18, I couldn’t imagine doing anything other than helping others build confidence through strength. That passion led me here—to a gym and a community that means so much to me. I’m beyond grateful for the coaches I get to work alongside every day, the incredible members who make this place what it is, and for Greg, whose leadership, standards, and relentless effort have shaped Feast into something truly special. He will always be a staple of this gym and a part of its heart. I can’t wait to grow with Feast, continue building fitter, grittier, more gracious people, and keep this community as strong as ever.

Sarah Gonsiorowski and Andrew Glatt are the team behind Lost Language, an up-and-coming sauna space dedicated to building community through quality sauna experiences. They’ve rented Sauna Club, a mobile sauna, for 11 days in March so our Ravenswood community can have access to more quality time with like-minded people…and the recovery benefits that sauna offers to athletes like you.

Mornings, evenings, weekends, weekdays, and 1 Apreś Sauna cocktail event with In Bar—they’ve planned it all.

Advice to keep you fueled for you fitness!

Fueling for THE open open workouts!

carbohydrate amounts, and timing, matter…

During the Open Open, we’re tackling really tough workouts, and sometimes (like during Friday Night Lights) at times different than we normally exercise.

You can set yourself up for success in these high intensity workouts by making sure you’re eating plenty of carbs, at the right times:

  • 2-3 Hours Before Training – Eat at least 50 grams of complex carbohydrates (e.g., oats, sweet potatoes) along with a small amount of protein. Avoid lots of fats in this meal.

  • 30-60 Minutes Before Training – Have a quick-digesting (low fiber) carbohydrate like a banana, white rice, toast with honey, cereal, or a sports drink. This provides an immediate energy boost without causing digestive distress. Test these foods out before game day to make sure they don’t upset your tummy. Again, 50 grams is a good number to aim for.

  • Post-Workout (Recovery) – Try to get another 50 grams of carbs as well as at least 25 grams of protein within 30 minutes of finishing the workout. A good way to do this is rice with chicken, or a protein shake with a banana. This helps replenish glycogen stores and support muscle recovery.

Ask any coach if you want more guidance on how to fuel before or after a workout. And pay attention to your body—feeling low energy at the start of a workout, having a sudden energy drop during a workout, or being super sore for a long time after a workout could all be signs that you’re not eating enough, or not at the right time.
